Naturopathy in Canberra: care that looks at the whole of you
Root-cause, whole-person naturopathy for tired, stressed, metabolically stretched people who are ready to feel like themselves again.

Naturopathy, the way I practise it, is not a bag of supplements and a wave goodbye. It is the work of understanding why you feel the way you do, and then helping you change it, gently, from where you are. As a naturopath, I look for the root cause beneath the tiredness, the anxiety, the weight that will not shift or the sleep that will not come. Rather than treating symptoms or chasing a single test result, I trace them back to what's driving them upstream — the physiology underneath, not just what's showing up downstream. I look at how you eat, move, sleep and manage stress first, because that is usually where the answer lives. Herbs and nutrients are a core part of how I practise — evidence-informed, precisely chosen, and used where they can make a genuine clinical difference. They support the changes you make, working alongside them rather than as an afterthought. Naturopathy works alongside your medical care, never instead of it.
We start with the root cause, not just the symptom or the result on the page
Most people arrive saying some version of "I'm just tired," or "I can't sleep," or "I can't lose weight.". Those, along with a borderline blood test or an out-of-range marker, are the downstream signs. My job as a naturopath is to ask what is driving them upstream — the physiology behind the symptom, not just the symptom itself, or the number on a page.
Often it is a nervous system that has been stuck in stress for years, a blood-sugar rollercoaster from skipping meals and living on coffee, a gut that is not as well as it could be, and a story underneath all of it that no one has had time to hear. When we find the actual driver, the symptoms have somewhere to go.
"Understanding the root cause is the crux of how naturopaths practise. When someone tells me they are tired, anxious or cannot lose weight, I am not looking to silence the symptom. I am looking for what is driving it — upstream, not just what shows up downstream in how they feel or what their results say."
What we look at together
I use the six pillars of lifestyle medicine as my map, woven through with a naturopath’s eye:
- How you eat, and whether it is nourishing you, not how many things you can cut out. Swap, do not stop.
- How you sleep, and what is really keeping you up: the racing mind, the screens, the hormones, the 3am wake.
- How you move, realistically, given the life you actually have.
- How you manage stress, which is usually where I spend the most time, because almost everyone who walks in is carrying too much.
- Your gut and digestion, the quiet foundation underneath mood and energy.
- Your hormones, energy and the patterns that show me where your body is asking for support.
- Your sense of purpose and connection — the friendships, relationships and community that sustain you, or the loneliness when they're missing.
- Habits that quietly shape all of the above — alcohol, smoking, and digital or screen habits that keep the nervous system switched on.
I look closely at blood work, test results and reports where they're available, reading them the way a clinician does — not as a verdict, but as one more piece of evidence pointing toward the upstream driver. I would rather understand the whole person in front of me than treat a number in isolation.
Where herbs and nutrients fit
Herbs and nutrients are a genuine clinical tool in my practice, chosen with the same rigour as any other part of the treatment plan. I will never just prescribe a supplement and send you away — every recommendation is targeted, evidence-informed, checked for safety and interactions with any medication you're on, and reviewed as your body changes. If herbs or nutrients have a role, I will explain exactly why, how they support the lifestyle changes you are making, and what to expect. They can be a powerful part of the work — helping to correct what diet and lifestyle alone can't move quickly enough, whether that's a deficiency, a stress response, or a system under strain. The aim is always for you to understand your own body well enough that any supplements you take are targeted, purposeful, and genuinely earning their place.
What working together looks like
A first consultation runs around 75 to 90 minutes. That time lets me understand the whole picture: your diet, sleep, digestion, stress, family history, and the story that brought you in. You leave with a Life Script, a plan written for your actual life, built around the two or three changes you are genuinely ready to make. From there we work together, adjusting as life shifts, focusing on consistency rather than intensity. This is a long game, and we treat it like one.
Who I work with
In clinical practice I most often support people who are exhausted, stressed and anxious, who are carrying weight around the middle, who are not sleeping well, or who have had a borderline result from their GP and want to act before it becomes something bigger. If that sounds like you, you are in the right place. Naturopathy may support your body’s own capacity to come back into balance, alongside your usual medical care.
What this can look like
A client came in carrying extra weight around the middle, sleeping poorly, and feeling flat and low on energy, with a blood result their GP had called borderline. We did not start with restriction. We started with sleep and a few gentle food swaps, supported by some targeted naturopathic care, and a little movement they could actually sustain. Over several months their energy lifted, their sleep settled, and the changes held because they were never extreme in the first place.
Details have been changed for privacy, and every person responds differently, but this is the kind of steady, sustainable change naturopathy is built for.

In 2022–23, around 65.8 percent of Australian adults were living with overweight or obesity (Obesity Evidence Hub, drawing on the ABS National Health Survey, 2024). Approximately one in six Australian adults over 25, around two million people, are living with pre-diabetes (Diabetes Australia, State of the Nation, 2024). These are common, and they respond to whole-person change.
